Dr. Ayala graduated University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Camden Cooper University Hospital as an adult psychiatrist. He then continued his education for child and adolescent psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship program. After years in the field, Dr. Ayala established his own practice in 2010; Ayala Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This is where he has been practicing full time ever since. Dr. Ayala is also bilingual and is able to conduct his appointment in both English and Spanish.
Gilda Ayala, APN graduated Thomas Jefferson University Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009 and received her Master’s in Family Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care in 2011. Gilda then continued her education at John Hopkins University completing her Post Master’s in Nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. In 2013, she joined Ayala Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and has been part of the practice ever since. Gilda also was an adjunct clinical professor/instructor at Thomas Jefferson University prior to joining Ayala Child & Adolescent Psychiatry full-time.
Patricia Castillo, APN has over 20- years- experience caring for our mental health community. She started her career at Friends Hospital in 2001, where she worked as a Mental Health Counselor. She enjoyed working there with the patients so much, she went on to pursue a career in nursing. She received a diploma degree in nursing from Frankford Hospital School of Nursing in 2008. She continued her education and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Temple University in 2012. Lastly, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing from Wilkes University in 2020. Patricia has experience working with all age groups in various settings. Patricia's patients have described her as calm, courteous, and caring.
Carolyn Robinson, APN graduated from the Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing in 1986. While working as a nurse on the medical floor of the Medical College of Pennsylvania, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Villanova University. She graduated from her Adult and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner program at The University of Pennsylvania in 2004. She has always had an interest in ethical problems, so she obtained further education from The University of Pennsylvania’s Bioethics Program and graduated in 2012. While working in a primary care practice, she realized the tremendous need for primary care (and other,) patients to have more access to psychiatric care, so she obtained training from Johns Hopkins’ Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner program. While she was a psychiatric student nurse practitioner, she and her preceptor gave patients the opportunity to participate in a bimonthly patient support group.
Carolyn gave her husband a kidney in 2015 and has also felt rewarded when helping patients deal with the stresses of chronic illness. She feels honored by being given the privilege of helping patients as they share their experiences with her.
Frahnie Pierre, APN graduated from Temple University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2003. She has 18 years of nursing experience at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she has worked with the pediatric behavioral health population in an acute care unit and has also spent several months working at a partial hospitalization day program for children with emotional and behavioral issues. Her passion and empathy for trauma-informed care and behavioral health led her to become certified as a Crisis Prevention Institute Instructor in which she taught numerous hospital-wide classes on verbal de-escalation and non-violent intervention strategies. She graduated from Walden University with her Masters in Nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She worked directly with Dr. Omar Ayala and Gilda Ayala, APN during two of her clinical rotations and is now excited to be part of the Ayala Child & Adolescent Psychiatry team!
